More than 70 coaches from the San Diego area enjoyed the second of three
great free coaches clinics sponsored this summer by the AAF in the
Southern California area.

Coaches who attended the Advanced Sessions heard state of the art tips
from Manny Baustista, coach of the 2000 and 2001 state community college
champions, Mesa College.
 

Bautista covered several of the findings that were recently presented to
the top coaches in the nation at the USATF distance summit.
Coach Pat King from state champions, San Pasqual, and Coach Mike
Cummings of Valley Center presented details of their successful
programs.
 

Other advanced sessions were presented by 11 times state champion coach,
Ken Reeves, on building strength in female distance runners, and John
Zimmerman of Orange Lutheran on basic training principles and nutrition.

About half the coaches in attendance at the clinic were new to the
sport, so they attended the Beginning Track sessions.
 

There will be one more free clinic this summer—August 17th at Mt. SAC.
This will be the Super Summer clinic with a full Beginning Track and
several Advanced Tracks. Among the featured speakers will be Ron Mann of
Northern Arizona University and Jack Farrell of Thousand Oaks.
